Process (Text)

  • Take a pan, add 2 tbsp vegetable oil and 1 cup onion.
  • Mix well for a minute.
  • Add 1/2 cup cabbage.
  • Mix well for another minute.
  • Add 2 tbsp chopped garlic, 1/2 cup red capsicum, 1/2 cup broccoli, 1/2 cup spring onion, 1/2 cup mushroom.
  • Mix well and let it cook for around 5 to 10 minutes.
  • Now, add salt as per taste, 2 tbsp chili flakes, 2 tbsp chili sauce.
  • Mix well.
  • Add 1 cup basil leaves.
  • Mix well.
  • Now, add 2 tbsp soy sauce. Now, add 2 cups of boiled rice. Add 2 tbsp chili oil.
  • Mix everything well.
  • Garnish with basil leaves.

Note: It’s better to use leftover boiled rice. Why? Because leftover boiled rice is dryer and less sticky than fresh rice, which can be moist and clump up. This dryness helps the rice soak up spices and sauces more easily, giving you a nice flavour all over the dish. Plus, drier rice ends up being fluffier, with grains that don’t stick together. So overall, the taste gets way better, making your fried rice truly tasty and enjoyable.

First things first, gather all your ingredients so you’re ready to whip up this tasty dish.

Then, grab a pan, pour in 2 tbsp of vegetable oil, and toss in 1 cup of chopped onion. Stir and fry for a minute until it’s golden and smells amazing.

Now, add in 1/2 cup of shredded cabbage, which will add a nice crunch to the mix. Stir and fry for another minute, just enough to soften it a bit but keep that crispy bite.

Next, throw in 2 tbsp of chopped garlic for a punch of flavour, then add 1/2 cup of diced red capsicum, 1/2 cup of broccoli florets, 1/2 cup of sliced spring onions, and 1/2 cup of diced mushrooms.

Mix it all up, letting those bright colours shine through, and cook for about 5 to 10 minutes.

You want to be sure the veggies stay bright and crunchy to keep things exciting in every bite of rice. A little secret about fried rice is keeping the veggies crunchy, as it adds a lovely textural contrast. Now, it’s seasoning time!

Sprinkle in some salt to taste, along with 2 tbsp of chili flakes and 2 tbsp of chili sauce for a bit of heat. Give it a good mix to combine all those great flavours.

Now, toss in 1 cup of fresh basil leaves—this will really boost the aroma. Mix it up again so the basil spreads its flavour through the veggies.

Next, add 2 tbsp of soy sauce to deepen the taste, and then stir in 2 tbsp of boiled rice for some heartiness.

Finally, drizzle 2 tbsp of chili oil over everything for that extra zing.

Mix it all one last time, making sure everything is coated with those yummy flavours.

Your basil fried rice is ready to serve!

Go ahead and top it off with some fresh basil leaves for a nice finish. Enjoy your delicious creation with your favourite dipping sauce or side!
